Back in Virginia to follow up with our stories and watched as 100 homeless volunteered to work the last water stop at the Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon. Incredible for a city that has criminalized homelessness. In the words of one homeless volunteer, “It’s the one time a year that we can feel like part of our community and not outcasts.”

Went to the woods to interview a gentleman who has nowhere else to live. The location was very confidential as Virginia Beach has very few shelters and strict laws prohibiting sleeping in public. Interviewed an 11 year old named Dalton, who spent most of his life homeless.

Organization was started by one man who decided he should serve sandwiches to the homeless, then reprioritized his life to start this organization. Interviewed several homeless and formerly homeless with amazing stories.

Tent camp and a volunteer meal service
Crossed the tracks to see where the homeless call home. Also spent time with Ron Speaks, who has been setting up tables and serving the hungry a meal every Thursday evening since 2008.
